Beyond these two girls as my muses, so are water, glowy ethereal light, and shapes of any kind that I can shoot through. What a lovely night of inspiration. All I could have used in addition was some wind (and food … I love shooting food). But it was a sticky hot mess outside. Thanks, Suzy and Jenna, for dealing with the mosquitos and mugginess. xoxo.

Lately I’ve been reading some books about vision by David DuChemin. This has really helped me to define my own vision and pay attention to what makes me overjoyed/ecstatic when shooting. What makes you overjoyed when shooting? What are your muses?

those are just SO lovely, it makes me want to go out and shoot purely for the joy of it. I absolutely adore that first color one in the tree.
looks a bit like Sophia Coppola’s The Virgin Suicides. and by that I mean: lovely and bewitching
i miss wisconsins beautiful light! my favs are the ones of them on the tree. beautifulllll!!!
I am still so new at this whole photography thing…so I get really excited when I capture the kind of image that I didn’t know I could. Something that actually LOOKS professional. In that instant, magic happens and I feel like I am more than just another mom with fancy dSLR. That I might actually have skill.
Maybe I am convoluded. Maybe I have talent. I think it’s still too early to really tell. But I find joy when I am behind the lens. Capturing a moment that even those in front of the lens didn’t know had happened. THAT is magic.
THAT is what I love.
And that is precisely what I love about your photos. It’s as if you find magic that even the subjects aren’t aware of.
AND, if I ever get back to Madison, I’d love to find this tree trunk by the water.
Best,
A
I love it when people talk about why they photograph, what inspires them. I like hints of light and shadow, and often I like to work with blur and darkness, neither of which are considered professional-looking.
Those tree shots…wow.
AMAZING!!!
