This week has been crazy. This coming is crazier. I’m leaving at 4am to shoot a session in Chicago — hours from now … and I’m still up editing photos.
I was editing photos late Friday evening when I thankfully glanced outside to see an awesome orange sky. Troy asked if I wanted to go to the park and watch the storm roll in against this unbelievable sunset and opposite a double rainbow. I almost said no. I’m so busy.
But then I went. And it was so amazing. I need to remember to take the time. To take in beautiful moments. To keep shooting personal work alongside work for my clients. To continue thinking like an artist first, and a wedding photographer second.
The night was unbelievable. People lined up across the shore to watch it. None of these photos are edited … they are straight out of my point and shoot camera. I want to always remember to be amazed by this world.

these are amazing friend! cant believe its SOOC! that definitely beats a cali sunset! oh and i love your little quote, “artist first, wedding photographer second.” i need to keep telling myself that (well in my case, children’s photographer). ive been so swamped with sessions that i feel like i’m missing my pregnancy :( *sigh*. thanks for the post and the sweet reminder though. xoxo miss you!
Amazing! Love these shots! Great message too, so easy to get wrapped up in the client work and forget to take time out for ourselves.
It was so AMAZING! I was working a night shift at Meriter on the 8th floor, and watched the sky come up behind the Capitol. It was insane!!
gorgeous!! i’ve been in the same boat lately :( yesterday was my birthday and i promised myself i wouldn’t even touch a computer but i got all paranoid about some emails and pictures i hadn’t gotten out yet and ended up editing for 2 hours. i hate that i feel guilty when i’m not putting work before myself. i’m glad you took a little time to yourself, it looks like it was totally worth it! :)
oh my gosh! those are incredibly beautiful! I hope this happens when i am there :) that would rock my world! love the one shot with troy boy!
The sky was amazing on Friday & Saturday nights up here, too — I really have to find a good location for shooting sunsets that I can get to in a hurry! We didn’t have the storm, but the sky… lavender, pink and blue, the sun ending in a big red fireball before sinking out of sight.
Also, LOVE LOVE LOVE your new header photo.
Absolutely amazing!
absolutely beautiful. so so so beautiful. thanks for sharing these and reminding us about our awesome world.
AWESOME sunset! LOVE 2nd.
That was such an amazing evening! We were stuck in a car driving down to Lake Geneva for a wedding and I was afraid to get out of the car since the storm was so bad. But man it was an amazing sky! Glad you were able to capture it. My iPhone did not do it justice. ;)
